Kelowna Landscapers Help You Plan Your Garden!

In the Okanagan, you don’t have to wait until the end of April or the beginning of May to start your garden. There are several varieties of early-season crops that you can begin planting during early spring. Lettuces and cole crops do exceptionally well when planted during early April. For instance, broccoli, cauliflower, brussels sprouts and cabbage, are all happy to get started outdoors. There are even some herbs and onions that can also be planted during the colder weather.

By planting some of your veggies now, you can avoid some of the pests that would normally be present later in the season. Additionally, by planting during the early spring, you will have enough time to plant a second crop. Be sure to wait until late April or early May to plant seeds straight into the ground. Furthermore, most flowering plants will not be able to withstand early April temperatures, so they are best left for later in the season.

Starting your vegetable garden for the year is exciting! Be sure to plant your veggies at the right time in order for the best results.
